Adaptogenic Nut Butter
INGREDIENTS
Adaptogenic Nut Butter
(Gluten/Dairy Free)
1 c Cashews, raw
1 c Brazil nuts, raw
1 c Pecans, sprouted if possible
1/3 tsp Pink Himalayan salt
3 tbs Maca powder
METHOD
Blend the nuts and salt in a food processor until combined, scraping down the sides as necessary. It takes a while to get there, but be patient. The nuts will begin by turning into an almond meal like texture, then it will form a sort of dough ball and then you will start to recognize it as becoming nut butter. Add the maca powder now and continue processing.
The key is to keep processing until it’s really silky smooth, mine takes about 10 minutes. The longer your process the more the oils are drawn out of the nut making for that drizzleable nut butter. If you like yourself some crunchy nut butter, add a handful of extra Brazil nuts once it’s finished, and process another minute or so.
Note: No added oil is needed to achieve a smooth texture when using this combination of nuts. If it’s not creamy, it may be that you need to process longer.
NUTRITION NOTES
Maca is one of my favorite adaptogens. It is especially good for balancing hormones, naturally elevating energy, focus and mood, and calming stress without chilling us out in a sleepy sort of way.
If you’re someone that’s chronically stressed, this might be a really good one for you because one of it’s powers is lowering cortisol, our stress hormone. When cortisol is chronically high from too much stress, it can do a whole lot of damage like create brain fog, memory loss, weight gain, insomnia and blood sugar issues.
Chill as a cucumber? Maca still has superpowers for you. It’s also known for supporting reproductive health, balancing estrogen levels, boosting male fertility and is an aphrodisiac. Fertile, balanced and intimacy — all good things!
Is that enough reasons to add this one to your life??
All that aside, it’s one of the better tasting adaptogens — nutty, mild, and oh so easy to incorporate into nut butters, baked goods, oats and smoothies!
